"Figurative Color"

My solo exhibition, Figurative Color, will be on exhibit in the Pegasus Gallery and the Niche at Middlesex Community College, Middletown, CT, from Monday, Jan. 26 through Friday, March 6, 2015. There will be a reception for the artist in the Pegasus Gallery Thursday, Jan. 29 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Portrait paintings by Clarissa R Gerber address the complex underpinnings of identity, emotional presence, and of human psychology. Dynamic color relationships and closely cropped compositions contain and defy the descriptive physicality of individual subjects. Broad brushstrokes, stark color contrasts and spatially deviant background settings offer readings of emotive states of mind and brewing interior narratives.

Gerber’s paintings speak to universal aspects of the human condition and reveal auras carried by both subject and setting. These portraits also materialize the visceral gaze exchanged between model and artist, artist and image, and lastly, between the viewer and resulting painting.

The Pegasus Gallery is within the Middlesex Community College library on the first floor of Chapman Hall. It is open Mondays - Thursdays from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. when classes are in session. The Niche is in Founders Hall across from the registrar’s office and is open Mondays - Thursdays from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The college is at 100 Training Hill Road.
